I think the definition of this trope is way too loose. How do you define a Noughties Drama Series? Character driven plots? That's too little, since practically any show can fit under this trope. I think this trope needs to be more defined, or maybe eliminated.

At very least the name doesn't fit the examples. How can The X-Files, a show that began in 1993 be a definitive noughties show? What elements does it have in common with a show like LOST that make this a unique category?

It seems to me that the description is too vague. This trope seems to be defined by TV series using Kudzu Plots as a soap-opera-like gimmick to get people watching. It is slowly becoming a more solid trope, I think... I remember the advertising for The Event was just "What is... THE EVENT?" which really codifies this sort of cheap black-curtain style. However, the title is just walking off in a different direction. We now see that the 2000s were neither the originators nor the codifiers of the genre.

Can anyone tell me if Smallville, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel are examples of this? It sounds to me like they are, but I just wanted to make sure I was understanding the definition correctly.

the world is so complicated
