About knives, as someone who has had a bit training in unarmed fighting and knife fighting, I can say that unless you are trained with a knife, its pretty hard to take someone down quickly enough before they can pummel your head in with their fists or grab your wrist and stab you with your own weapon, there's a reason most stabbing murders require upwards of 20 stabs. So in most cases, fists are actually better than knives
Hide / Show RepliesThis true. A good chunk of martial arts training involves disarming an opponent. So in a way this is Truth in Television.
I do not exist. Unless I do. In which case, I AM.Even if you ARE trained a knife is all but useless against someone trained in hand to hand combat. All you end up doing is tying up one of your hands. When trained fighters are in the picture a hand weapon is only useful if it gives you reach, which a knife doesn't. This is very much Truth in Television.
Is it just me or does the Baccano example not count? Firo's immortal, of course weapons aren't going to be of any use against him.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am... Hide / Show RepliesBut using the knife made things worse for the attacker, since it did piss Firo off.

Man, there are less than ten sword/weapon users in the whole series, and they're all useless! Except Yajirobei (he managed to bisect Cymbal and cut Vegeta's Tail) and Trunks (he turned Freeza into space dust) but since then, each and every sword is doomed to be smashed by the other characters...
Played with and inverted in Myth Busters, specifically the episode "Duel Dilemmas". But then again, that was don't bring a knife to a gunfight....similar trope.
