Unknown Troper wrote in the old article's discussion page: "Isn't this just I Wish It Were Real?"

During the rename discussion we determined there was a difference: in I Wish It Were Real the wished for thing comes true. Here it never does.

That's a trope in which someone wishes something fictional was real and it actually happens.
