Deleted this part:

  • The whole idea behind women wearing burqas and niqābs as often practised in Islamic countries.

As that is patently not reason why women wear the veil in Muslim countries whether the headscarf or the niqab.

If it were "patently" not the reason, people wouldn't think it is. At worst it's a misconception. What would you say is the real reason?

If it is not the reason, why do only women wear the veil? Any other reason would require men to wear it, too.

I edited it back in since I don't think I'll get an answer to my question anytime soon.

However, as I can see why some people might feel discriminated against by that statement, I also added that this double standard is, in fact, almost international, and it's just the amount of fabric required that differs.

Shouldn't the title be "I'm A Man; I Can't Help It" with a semicolon, seeing as it's joining two independent clauses?

Technically, yes — but it's a rare example of bad syntax that conveys useful information. Listen to these in your head:

"I'm a man. I can't help it."
"I'm a man; I can't help it."
"I'm a man, I can't help it."

They all have slightly different flavours, don't they? The last comes across a bit hasty, a bit dismissive. This sort of comma splice for quick, closely-linked sentences is pretty common, especially in dialogue. It's wrong but useful, and I kinda like it.

Was debating about adding a Real Life entry, but suddenly not sure if this is the same trope. It's how some guys will use this excuse to try to get a girl to keep going even if the girl wants to stop. You know:

Ann: I don't want to do this any more.
Bob: You don't understand how a man's body works. If I stop now, I'll suffer horrible pain. You're the one who got me aroused like this and you should have the decency to see it through.

Usually with far less of a speech, of course, but that's the gist. And if the girl is naive enough, she won't realize that yeah, he could just go in the bathroom and finish himself off, and she might let him even though it's really emotional blackmail.

Only the curious have, if they live, a tale worth telling at all.
