- Christ was likely not actually born in December. The church liked to replace pagan celebrations with proper Christian ones, so it's possible he was born in May, thus making the connection between William and Christ stronger.
- That the Church chose December 25 to overwrite a pagan holiday is a common fallacy. Sextus Julius Africanus noted the celebration in 220 AD, as well as Hippolytus of Rome in 225 AD, and Pope Telesphorus far earlier, c. 120 AD, all years before Emperor Aurelian created "Sol Invictus" in 274 AD. There was much argument about the actual day, but that Christmas was often celebrated long before Sol Invictus even caught on appears well documented.
