The definition of hack and slash is very confusing, by my understanding. This page seems to describe a subgenre of beat-'em-up. Hack and slash in the RPG sense is, I think, a game which focuses mostly on dungeon exploration and monster slaying and doesn't pay much attention to puzzles or story. I personally think this page should be rewritten to fit the former definition, while clarifying the latter.

Isn't this the same as a 3D beat-'em-up?

Should be corrected, as it is now Diablo and Diablo 2, the prime examples for hack and slash, aren't by this definition.
