According to the "Going Through the Motions" trope, it wasnt until 2000 that the motion capture technology was more used and affordable. If we take that into account does that mean that a game Soul Reaver 2 in game cutscenes were made with this tech? Where does it say otherwise in case if a am wrong?

I have made a crowner to discuss changing the name of this trope. This looks like a page about Stock Footage specifically as it relates to video games. The current title doesn't really describe the concept very well, as the expression "going through the motions" is usually something a person does on purpose, as opposed to an indirect technical limitation.

The description for this trope makes it sound like stock animations and motion capture are the only two means of animating 3-D characters in video games. What about animating the models from scratch? Nintendo, in particular, seems to use very little motion capture outside of The Legend of Zelda and possibly Fire Emblem; most of their 3-D output appears to be completely hand-animated.
I suppose I'll edit the description to add that avenue in.
