Berlin Gestapo Headquarters was situated in very nice, even opulent late-XVIII century building (with windows, door handles and the like). There is an image on Wikipedia if you don't believe me. Thinking of it, it is a bit disconcerting that Gestapo HQ is a dead ringer to the main building of my former university.
