I don't get Zero Punctuation what the parody in the Zero Punctuation is getting at. I didn't see the episode so I can't comment.
Going by the "can't point to main gameplay" definition in the description, some games in the example list don't belong at all. Halo, for example has some shifts in levels, but it is, definitely, at the core, a first person shooter.
