Okay, I just removed all examples where the character isn't evil or at least a jerk. Hopefully this won't get out of hand again.
Why was my cutlist request of this turned down?
I just don't see this as a trope- it doesn't seem like something clear cut the way a lot of Names to Run Away from Really Fast are. I mean I can think of at least two series where a character is probably named Roy precisely because they are heroic.
Hodor Hide / Show RepliesMaybe because it's got a decent number of inbound links? I'd suggest taking it to the Trope Repair Shop to discuss it but it's not taking new submissions at the moment. Tropes like Jack Attack and Everythings Better With Bob have been nuked, so I'd imagine this one would be too.
Maybe it's time to try again? About a third of the examples on the page aren't even valid — they're not named Roy or Leroy, or they're "subversions" or "aversions," which isn't really meaningful for a trope like this. This isn't an attempt to categorize the morality of every single character in fiction named Roy.
You'll have to start a Trope Repair Shop thread on this. While I am not familiar with the trope usage, none of the arguments offered here contradicts the Tropes in Aggregate claim that this page makes.
