Does it count if the character in question has a Healing Factor? A healing factor might cause a character to trade a serious injury for a tactical advantage.

Archived discussion moved from the old name, I Have Two Kidneys:

Circeus: Didn't two Marvel characters turn out to have more than one heart?

Fire Walk: Quick query, due to ambiguity of the entry: would cases where the hero has his heart on the other side count? And would Mal's spine in Serenity count?

Joie De Combat: Marrow had two hearts, which enabled her to survive getting stabbed in one of them by Storm, as I recall, but I don't know if Marrow allowed herself to get stabbed or not. The qualifier for the trope is the character allowing him or herself to be impaled in order to gain some kind of an advantage, so unless Mal actually got stabbed, he doesn't count.

Joie De Combat: Pulled the Marrow example again. She didn't intentionally get stabbed in the heart in order to gain an advantage over Storm, so it doesn't fit the trope, which is about gaining an advantage in combat by taking an injury, not just about having spare vital organs.
