Simply being educated or once proposed an alternative plan doesnt make you the authors target, but those who are threats to the continuity of the plot or just look too damn good.

Sometimes the pragmatic solution is not the moral one. I think this should be reflected in the opening description somehow. This is another narrative justification for the trope in cases when it's like this.

Is there more to the page picture other than the fact that you should get out of the bus that hangs over cliff?
If there is (ie, he gets killed by sudden bear or something?), then it is bad page picture as those who haven't seen that particular episode cannot tell what happens.
