Does this trope only apply if their masters are human? I was going to include the various creatures in Winx Club that bond with fairies, but I don't know if this covers that. As for the bond creature itself, does it have to be an animal, or can it be humanoid? I was thinking the Fairy Animals could qualify, but I don't know if the Pixies and Selkies count.

What's the difference between a Bond Creature and a Mon? Its says to compare them, and Mon has a similar redirect back to Bond Creature, but it never says where the difference is.

Similarly, is there a difference between a Bond Creature and a Familiar? Both seem to describe a creature which has a strong bond with a human, and both mention Animal Eye Spy as a common trait.

Where in Jennifer Roberson's Cheysuli series does it imply (even vaguely) that the lir are members of a "semi-intelligent empathic alien species"? This isn't the first place that I've read someone claiming that, but everything I've read in the series (and on the author's own website!) denies this utterly: the lir are animals, of various normal species, jacked up to human-level intelligence by the gods themselves, with the specific purpose of acting as a conduit of magic and interpretation to their chosen people. (Which only later on degenerates to a one-to-one bond between warrior and lir...)
