If the "boss" is fought and killed in a cutscene, it's Cutscene Boss. If they're revealed to not even be a villainous character, then it's either Good All Along (if the character is plot-critical) or merely a subversion of Boss Battle (if they aren't).

Which trope is it when the game leads you to expect you're going to have a fight with a boss, but instead you... simply don't? Either because the enemy gets killed by something else in a cutscene, or it turns out the apparent boss isn't actually an enemy after all, or similar? It's not this trope because there's no "switch"- it would be more like "Bait and Nothing Boss".
Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised. Hide / Show Replies
