What about debatable category fraud? Like when a performance could be considered lead or supporting depending on how you viewed the film?

Hmm. Could you give me an example?

Christian Bale in The Fighter. He takes up a lot of screentime at first, but is sort of edged out in the middle, only to come back at the end. You could argue that Dicky Ecklund was just as major of a character as Mickey Ward,

Then most likely it shouldn't be included, unless the circumstances showing why the category is debatable can be concisely described. Perspective can be iffy, like how some have argued that the Joker is more important to The Dark Knight even though that role was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
