I think Batman himself qualifies as a heroic example, in the comics. He's always Crazy prepared, including using memory Gambits as revealed in Tower of Babel.
And to me, one of the requirements for being a Magnificent Bastard is being able to pull off a Batman Gambit. And Batman is well, the Trope Namer for that.
