Moved this to Discussion:

  • Affably Evil: Rivals Dawson Kalliam and Curtin Issandrian, who seem to genuinely believe in the rules of courtly behavior they abide by.
    • Although whether either of them is actually evil, as opposed to just morally blinkered, is highly debatable.

Although the second bullet is natter, it makes a good point. I wouldn't say that Issandrian is evil at all- he's antagonistic to Dawson, but he's actually the more sympathetic of the two and while his fellow conspirators had some shady aims, Issandrian was an Unwitting Pawn.

Dawson is a harder call, but he doesn't really seem to quite fit Affably Evil (at least not for the reasons in the example). Dawson is well-intentioned and a loving father and husband, but has some pretty repellent beliefs and does some bad stuff because of those beliefs (although he also does noble stuff).

Also, that looks like a Zero-Context Example to me.

I agree. Issandrian isn't evil at all, and I wouldn't call Dawson evil either. He's certainly a reactionary, but he's not out to hurt anyone. He just doesn't want Antea to change.
