Acquired Situational Narcissism needs cleaning up or moving to YMMV, heck pretty much anything to do with the Hamner/Saba philosophical divide. Hamner "cracking under the pressure and attacking Saba" could easily be countered with "Saba and her group were intentionally undermining Hamner's authority to act as Grand Master" and the fact Hamner had reasonable ground to be worried Daala's mental instability and glaring anti-Jedi sentiment could've lead to another Order 66.

So why, why are these new hidden Sith faction not all melting from Darkside ugliness? I get that it's to make them more sympathetic characters, but does that mean they aren't nearly as Dark Side-influence as they think they are? It seems that the Dark Side of the Force's only consistently reliable traits are it's ability to kill things and how it eventually makes you pretty awful to look at the more you use it. The eyes seem to go first, but it looks like most Dark Side users get pretty bad, with paler, stretched skin, prominent black veins, and are weirdly prone to things that force them to replace their anatomy with gross machine implants.... Is this foreshadowing to how the Sith featured here aren't all bad?

Somehow I don't believe so. Look at the events of The Clone Wars. The Father, the Son, and the Daughter are basically a trinity of insanely powerful beings, with the Father apparently being a Grey area between the two Sides of the Force, while the Son is pure Dark Side. Granted his animal form is predatory and more or less monstrous, his humanoid form looks no worse off than Anakin and Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. Palpatine looked more or less normal until his own Force Lightning was deflected back at him by Mace Windu, and let's not forget, Anakin himself was only disfigured the way he was by being IGNITED on Mustafar by the sheer volcanic nature of the planet.

Deleted this passage, since the side plot in question was hinted at earlier in the series:

*Writer on Board: Allies by Christie Golden in particular is guilty of this. There's a huge (and argueably unnecessary) side plot dealing with the evils of slavery.

Due to its prior foreshadowing, I doubt that the plot will be a Golden-exclusive part of the series, thus not making it a Writer on Board. However, if it fails to be mentioned in the next book, it will qualify for this trope.
