Removed the Elfquest example for factual errors. This is not an idiot ball, nor is it Leetah forgetting her powers. the elves in question are all flying on eagles at the time; they are midair, and only Cutter & his two young children are on the eagle with Lord Voll; Leetah is on the ground, riding with the others. The bolt that kills Voll is NOT a crossbow bolt. It is much bigger than a crossbow; it's fired from a troll-made harpoon mechanism. The bolt is huge, easily thicker than an elf's arm, and it goes THROUGH the eagle's chest & Lord Voll's chest, right thru their hearts, and barely missing Cutter and his kids.
Keep in mind, they're mid-air when this happens. Cutter hits the ground, rolling with his kids to absorb the impact, and all the elves are immediately attacked by trolls. There's no time nor chance for Leetah to go into heal-trance, and worse, Voll is shown and stated as already dead when he hits the ground. Between the huge bolt thru his chest/heart & the impact of falling from a great height & the troll attack, Voll never had a chance.
Cutter is not hit in the heart in that fight. He's gut-stabbed; gut-stabs are not immediately fatal. Bluntly, you can live for quite some time — painfully, but still alive. Nor does Leetah heal him right away — Cutter doesn't let her. It's only after they're rescued and in a safe place that Leetah gets the chance to try to heal Cutter, and even THEN, it's only with Rayek's last-minute help that Leetah succeeds (Rayek was with the Go Backs). Before Rayek shows up, Leetah almost loses Cutter and she knows it.
All of this is shown and stated in the story. None of this is justification or head-canon on my part. The Original Elfquest comics are all online at Elfquest.com and you can see the whole sequence yourself. Leetah's failure to heal Voll is not an idiot-ball.
