I think this page about High Octane Nightmare Fuel has devolved into "Talk about your Asperger's Syndrome or OCD here". This probably warrants some clean up

If it helps, I got rid of a giant section of Asperger's related discussion. It's not a particularly scary condition and there was quite a bit of flamebait on it.

Agreed, though I think the cleanup needs to remove all personal examples ("this troper" "and "I have this disease") as they keep being too personal and seem to be turning this page into a support group.

Limiting this page to historical examples and medical facts only might prevent this from happening again.

Would anyone object to this page being historical examples and medical facts only? For now I just put up a request to not add more personal examples which may help stem the tide until we can decide on this. I also cut out some of the personal examples, and the "me, too!" or "if I catch this, kill me" natter.

...I don't suppose there's a way to recover the pre-pruning version for personal reference? So much of what was removed was so helpful to read and I want to keep the old page for myself. I'd use the sandbox but I have no idea how to put everything back exactly where it was. (And even on the slim chance the Wayback Machine caught hold of it, it wouldn't be up for another six months.)

EDIT: Strike that, I'm slowly piecing everything back together on the Darth Wiki Sandbox, and I'll remove the entire thing as soon as it's done and saved to my computer. Hope nobody minds.

As long as you don't put it back into this page it's OK.

There are lots of support pages where disorder sufferers can share their stories and talk about their disorders. TV Tropes is not one of those pages and this page should not be used as such.

I'm working on cleaning up the examples a little to be less personal and full of discussion.

Removing this because it's bound to become flame bait, if it hasn't already:

Being transgender. It is not a perversion but a real medical condition, in which an individual's gender identity is inverse to that of his or her body. It can be in either direction - male to female or female to male - and in 1996 and later 2000 it was diagnosed to manifest itself in brain; the bed nucleus in stria terminalis of transmen and transwomen is malformed. This leads them to identify as the opposite sex from what their body is. Transfolk who are forced to conform to their biological sex (say, a trans woman forced to live as a man) almost invariably develop crippling emotional and psychological damage and are often driven to suicide because of the contradiction between mind and body. Those allowed to transition, however, are able to live normal and fully functional lives. For an idea of how bad it can get for an untreated trans person, think of Tim Curry's character Dr. Frankenfurter in Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now play it utterly, utterly straight. No comic edge at all. This would be an extreme case, of course, but still illustrative. If this comparison seems insensitive or offensive, my apologies. Add to this those transgendered individuals who are stuck in the gender society perceives them to be due to the fact that everyone they have ever loved and trusted would turn away from them if they did anything about it. The real high octane nightmare fuel here is that these individuals will go through hell no matter what they decide to do. How do you choose between going mad inside a body that isn't yours or losing everyone and everything you have ever loved? Furthermore, there is the issue of the huge amount of violence, discrimination, and marginalization faced by the trans community on a daily basis. Imagine you're transgender. Now imagine you're experiencing anything else on this page, or you've ever experienced any other kind of trauma. Even if you're comfortable, secure, and proud in your gender identity, there is some asshole who thinks your gender, a fundamental and unchangeable part of your being, is a "side effect" of being mentally ill.

. . . And I put it back. Why is the transgender discussion "flame bait" that has to be removed yet all that disgusting crap in the War Crimes/Crimes Against Humanity Section isn't? Sounds like talking about gender issues just makes you uncomfortable.

If it helps any, I changed it so that it focuses more on the problems trans people face (which was probably the whole point of the entry in the first place).
