This one's been buggin' me for a while and bear with me because it's pretty long, but apparently there's something of a Double Standard that's been going recently regarding the whole DLC drama as of late. Aside from EA, everyone's favorite target regarding this little affair is Capcom. Many have already, no doubt heard about the the on-disc content that was locked away for Street Fighter X Tekken; the twelve characters and alternate costumes. While it would be nice for people to actually discuss how DLC and programming works, this one thing bugs the hell out of me; several other companies have done, or are doing identical, if not, worse things regarding DLC. First, we've got the reboot of Mortal Kombat when people hacked the game and discovered Skarlet on disc along with Cyrax and Sektor's MK 3 outfits. Fully rendered. Glitchy and no use of her weapons, but functional and can even perform a Fatality. Heck, she actually has an alternate costume but that was left out when she was officially released. Next to nobody complained. Heck, said costume is in the Vita version, fully operational, too. Next, you've got Dissidia 012. Some people have hacked the original Prologus and discovered all of the costumes that would be in the game. Fast forward to the full release and it turns out; all planned outfits for DLC, plus Aeris, are all already on-disc. The real kicker here is that even though these costumes exists on all regional versions of the game, some of them either can't be unlocked unless you're using a specific regional account for the PSN, or you have to buy an entirely new game at full price just to get it. Worse even is that some of these costumes could only be unlocked as a one-time offer as a preorder bonus. Some of this hypocritical behavior is also exhibited regarding prices. People have often complained how Capcom's DLC for their fighting games are particularly overpriced...when other fighting games have similar or even higher prices. UMVC 3's characters are only 5 dollars, as does Mortal Kombat. Blazblue however, has theirs priced at 8 dollars. Virtua Fighter 5's DLC costumes is actually three times higher than the actual game itself.
