I wonder what their actual plan was for a war. They don't seem to have any flyers so the only thing that would stop the Princesses and probably the Pegasai who have been shown to control lightning from picking them off literally at will is eventually wearing themselves out.
On top of that it seems clear that Discord is affectionate towards Fluttershy. I'm fairly certain if she said 'sic em boy' he's pause and count to .5 to give a princess time to scream no and then shit would get real.
It kinda reminds me of the first Avengers movie.
