… Several of those examples are not from the remakes. I don’t think deleting all of them just because the first example is is fair.

I haven't played Three Houses. Did it sexualize the armor knight? If not, I'm inclined to edit out that part. Also, pegasus knights have worn miniskirts without riding sidesaddle on flying creatures since the NES days, so no, it wasn't just mages and other classes with fanservice-y designs. Fanservice isn't just cleavage after all.

Then, in a show of good faith... any idea what the entry might be talking about?

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/9/9f/KnightFem.JPG/revision/latest?cb=20190531191020. I think this concept art from Fates may be what they're talking about, but this is art of them out of the armor. Does the final design look like that in Fates?

Link doesn’t work, but like their Awakening counterparts they’re pretty well covered.

I guess, finally looking at it from a PC rather than a phone where the link can be made to work, this refers to the leotard/thigh gap in the leggings? A fairer point, especially for a game with (limited) clothing damage.

Yeah, that's basically an armored woman in a battle thong. Not sure if that helps make or break the case for the example, but it's certainly not practical battlewear.

I ultimately fall back on the fact that lady knights’ve worn thigh-baring boots and miniskirts in this series for decades, some of them on flying mounts, and that that’s already the subject of the entry... but I might write an example of that nature at some point.

A lot of the examples here seem very... questionable... from my reading of the FE fanbase, in that it's not really clear these are "sins" at all, just archetypes. Most of this page should probably be deleted, and the remaining actual entries merged back to the main page? Here's some example problems:

  • I have no idea what the rambling about Morgan & Kana is trying to accomplish or what it has to do with Franchise Original Sin.
  • Wait, the Camus archetype is a "sin"? People didn't like Xander? There are people who don't like Fates in general, sure, but I don't think Xander is really complained about. Xander's also gotten a bunch of alts in FEH for whatever it's worth.
  • The Catria archetype? Okay, as terrible as this can be, let's face it, fans love this shit. Cordelia was one of the absolute most popular Awakening characters, Catria was one of the most popular FE 1/3/11/12, people seemed to like Faye, etc.
  • 8-4 didn't do the translation for Fates, and only the usual suspects were whiners about FE Fates's localization, and I have no idea where "Fates English characters are flatter" is coming from.
  • "FE 7 has a gate to another world" misunderstands the complaints about Awakening / Fates. There's nobody violently opposed to having other worlds in fiction. The complaints are that the future timeline doesn't really make much sense if you're a nitpicker for Awakening, and the Valla plotline / Deeprealms are really stupid in Fates. It's not some inherent resistance to plotlines involving visiting another world.
  • The rambling about FEH alts isn't remotely a Franchise Original Sin. The older F Es don't have alts unless you REALLY stretch the definition.
  • Camilla isn't a base-breaking character either. Again, people like Camilla, there's a reason she has a zillion alts and consistently was in the top 10 of CYL, the base-breaker is Fates itself if you insist which will get Camilla indirectly. So... popular character shows up frequently, news at 11, hardly "overuse".
  • The Warriors section also doesn't seem to have anything to do with "Franchise Original Sin" but is just complaining about stuff the writer doesn't like.

I see I've been reverted. Gregster, see above. Most of the entries on this page are a mess because they are Complaining About Things You Don't Like, and yes, this is a YMMV subtope, but it's not really what Franchise Original Sin is supposed to be about. It's supposed to be people like a series -> new entries are made that generate some dislike / heat -> people look back and shock, it was in the original liked entries all along, they just didn't notice before, or the times changed, or it became more obvious. Additionally, this facet has to be somehow "core" to the series and not something easily fixed or changed. Per above, that doesn't really apply to the vast majority of entries. Even for people who hate Xander, does this have anything to do with Sacred Stones Selena being badly written? Is there something core to Fire Emblem shared among these characters? Not really. And Camilla having "too many" alts in Heroes - this has literally nothing to do with Franchise Original Sin. Alts are a phenemenom entirely exclusive to Heroes that has no precedent elsewhere in the series. Ergo, even if you think it's a "sin", it's not this trope, it's something else.

This page feels like an excuse to regurgitate every nitpick people can think of about Awakening and Fates and still ultimately say that the old games were better. I vote to purge it.

And a third vote to either massively trim this page or (preferred) just nuke this page entirely. It seems to be one editor (Gregster 101's) opinions who reverted any attempt to trim the most egregious stuff before.

...Well, no one else has stepped up to the plate, so I'll handle the trimming.

Hope I wasn't too snip-happy with the shears. I tried to leave in examples I personally found convincing (that Camus analysis was really good, for instance, and doesn't read that much like a drag on the handheld era), but I'm fully aware I'm just a guy, and just as blinkered as anyone else. That's the whole point of having a wiki.

I vote to purge, honestly. I feel like there are only one or two examples that actually fit the trope, not nearly enough to necessitate a separate page for them. Why not just merge with the main page, or the YMMV page?

How is FE 7 the one that started the "fanservice armor designs" when FE 3 and 4 did the same as well. Lyn? The pegasus knights? (basically since the first game?)

Those aren't nearly as egregious. Compare Lyn to Camilla. Lyn's a mage, and they don't wear armor. She also doesn't have her breasts or ass hanging out. All that's really seen are her legs (and arms, I guess, though that doesn't seem fanservice-y). Camilla looks like a frontline fighter who's simultaneously moonlighting as a stripper. The Pegasus Knights? They wouldn't require as much armor since they're on horses that are pretty much always in the air (they present smaller targets who also move constantly, compared to the pegasi themselves. So miniskirts aren't that bad, in comparison.) Fanservice isn't inherently completely awful, but at least make it have *some* sense.
