Who else is in favor of creating a new page for the 2015 reboot? It's been done for other franchises that have been rebooted, so I think it would make sense to do it for this one as well, but what do you think?

Excellent. I have now created it under the name Bionicle Generation 2. Let me know if I need to make any changes.

The title might need changing; most of our pages for reboots with the same title differentiate them with the year at the end, so in this case it'd be "Bionicle (2015)". I can do it if nobody else gets to it first.

How do we know these are the original toa, and not just rebooted incarnations?

We don't. Everything we've seen so far suggests that they are new versions of the characters specific to the reboot.

I'm considering making a new set of pages for the two Mata Nui Online Games (combined as one entry), removing all (or most of) the related tropes for the two games from the Bionicle pages.

I want some support from other folks before I start, though. Anyone else think this is a good idea?

No discussion on this? Well, anyway, why is the Nightmare Fuel page gone?

It was restored literally after a cut. You need to head over into the forums, Special Efforts subforum, Nightmare Fuel cleanup thread.

I don't follow Bionicle, but have noticed the links across the Wiki. Sometimes it's listed under a separate folder heading "Toys" while other merchandise-driven lines (Such as Transformers, etc.) are under animation, etc. Listing it under "Toys" should only apply to the physical toy - any stories should be listed in whatever media the stories appear in, not under a "Toy" folder.

But... I'm not fixing them because as I said, I'm in unfamiliar territory. Just saying it here to the Bionicle crowd.

Toys seemed like the most obvious choice to me in most cases.

Examples from, say, the DTV movies, comics or books of course went to their corresponding folders (Western Animation or Film, Comics, and Literature respectively), but when for certain tropes, there were examples from multiple media formats, I usually crammed them all under the Toys or Other tags.

I don't know what strategy others used — I have seen some examples listed under Western Animation when they would actually have belonged to Web Original, Comics or, just plainly, Toys.

Yes, but are these Bionicle stories printed on the toys themselves, or visible in the movies/books? If so they should be listed under the format they appear. To list it under "toys" applies to the physical Legos you get out of the container to build your Bionicle, not the story you read about in the comic - even if the comic comes with the legos.

That shouldn't be a problem — I'll try to sort out what I can.

But if there's a trope that applies to something that spans across multiple media formats, like a character or story concept that appears in various books, comics or whatever... where would that go? 'Cause Bionicle is an interesting case in this regard — unlike most other story-driven toy lines, its story didn't have a "standard" medium. And certain stories were even told simultaneously through comics, books and movies.

There's also a lot of background info that wasn't written anywhere, and was only mentioned by the story writer on on-line message boards (when he was still active on forums).

Do you reckon these unclassifiable examples should go under tabs like "Other" or "Multiple Media"/"Overlapping"?

I reckon Bionicle would make most sense in a "Multiple Media" tab, as the story was doled out over comics, books, animated movies, online animations, online story serials, and online podcasts, (probably at least one other I forgot) and things didn't repeat over two or more of those media so a fan would miss out on some things if they only followed one of the ways the story progressed.

Could somebody get me a link to the topic that revealed Bota Magna's giant biomechanical dinosaurs? I've seen it before, but now I can't find it.

Colony Drop: First when Mata Nui crashes onto "Aqua Magna" thanks to Makuta.

Aqua? You mean Bara!

I think that's referring to the giant robot Mata Nui. He crashed into Aqua Magna in Legends of Metru Nui (Although no one knew that was what actually happened.) Poor guy, seems like most of his time is spent crashing into planets !

Being hired killers and bounty hunters isn't the only agenda of the Dark Hunters. The Shadowed One has his own huge criminal empire on his hands, does that make them The Syndicate or is there some other trope that fits it better? (That's the best one I could find).

I was reading "TV Tropes as a Gateway Drug" and realized that we don't have links to any story content. I mean, there's not much point having all this if it's not going to get new people into the story. Is there a good site where all the old web animations can be found and played in order? If so, we can put that first, followed by MNOLG, then the comics (BS 01?), and so on, ending with Bionicle Story.com.

So, if we were to have some sort of list of links to story sources, how should we do it?

I dunno. BS 01 is pretty much the place for sources.

It may be confusing for people to navigate, though. We can definitely link to it somewhere, but I think stuff like the animations should come first, since that will draw more people in and entertain them, rather than having to browse through a wiki and try to wrap their head around everything. Best to start at the beginning, y'know?

There exists a very good website that basically has EVERY old Bionicle game/comic/animation/what have you. It's called The BioMedia Project.

I'm going based off the "Related To" list. It seems to list things like WMG and Just Bugs Me from other works, but it doesn't show links to Bionicle's own subpages. Maybe none of the subpages have links to the main page in their body text?

On evidence for "giant Mata Nui Robot" being planned all along, recall that the Metru Nui arc established that Metru Nui has two "suns" (holes in the cavern ceiling) and is the northernmost location in the Matoran world; which corresponds perfectly to it being in the robot's head, with the suns as Mata Nui's eyes. This part was also when Greg established that, despite appearances, not just Metru Nui but the entire known world is underground; in retrospect this seems an odd bit of worldbuilding until the "robot" explanation. The Gods Must Be Lazy and Gods Need Prayer Badly tropes also make a ton of sense for the robot.

My wording was pretty poor there and choice of trope was bad, so let me clarify: I didn't mean that the revelation of Mata Nui being a giant robot came out of blue. However, Mata Nui being a giant robot with the Matorans working as it's maintanence workers really doesn't make any sense. Because doesn't working as a maintanence worker kind of requires you to, well, know that you are one to begin with? Since Mata Nui isn't techinically a god anymore, it makes no sense for it's function to be somehow depentant on Matorans' hard-work(for example how does being an archivist exactly help the robot's vital functions?), unless they suddenly made all new professions we've never heard before(which would be a real Retcon) or the series is now aiming at the most ridiculously softest of the soft scifi. If the robot was like a Physical God rahter than just being a technological marvel, there wouldn't be much of a problem.

And the reason for Mata Nui's construction brings even more hefty amounts of Fridge Logic.
DragonRanger

I think I see where you're going with this, but that's Fridge Logic or maybe a Genre Shift, not a Retcon. A Retcon is "the creators changed their minds partway through", which I don't think is the case here.
ThatOtherGriffin
04:29:13 AM Nov 27th 2010
Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I chose to use Retcon.

I can see how the Archivists fit- they we maintaining and updating Mata Nui's memory banks, right? Then there are more indirect ones like teachers- you can argue that they help the spread of knowledge and are therefore a part of the internal communication system. We really only know about the Matoran in Mata Nui's brain, and therefore his cognitive processes- the ones in other areas would likely have very different jobs.

But, yes, according to Mohs Scale of Sci-Fi Hardness, Bionicle is a marshmallow. I, for one, would rather be told that A Wizard Did It than be given a Voodoo Shark sci-fi explanation that doesn't make sense.

Currently in the storyline, Spherus Magna has been reformed, how are we going to name the subsection for that?

Ok, so now that the tropes relating to Rahi have been removed from the Character section, should we put those back in the main article?
DragonRanger

Sorry to reply so late; I usually ignore Discussion pages and didn't even realize someone asked a question.

And while I know you already made the change, I would vote no. Most of the examples amount to "this kind of animal exists in this setting" and that's it, which isn't worth noting and clutters up the trope page. They're random beasts, many of which barely appear in any story. I don't see the point in keeping them.

Noah1

Krahka, Tahtorak, Keetongu, and Fenrakk/Kardas have enough storyline significance to stay on the page, but I am curious: exactly what Rahi were removed?
