How would one categorize the film's aliens? Humanoid Alien? Humanoid Abomination? I remember reading an interview with John Carpenter where he said the sort of rotting corpse design for the aliens was a stylistic thing... he wanted to steer away from a "fancy" science fiction alien with a hundred tentacles: "The creatures are corrupting people, so they themselves are corruptions of human beings."

Humanoid Alien definitely, Humanoid Abomination is about things that look like humans, but are an Eldritch Abomination, Humanoid Alien is about things that look and act like humans but are not.
