On the topic of "Did Not Do the Research": When the original UV Rs were being written, in the mid- to late nineties, many of the fighting games involved did not yet have significant storylines or fleshed-out characterizations the way that many of them do now. Characterization has marched on, but that should be considered.
In addition, Rule of Funny explicitly applies (i.e. Yoshimitsu, who acts that way explicitly because he looks an awful lot like Wreck-Gar).
