In an early chapter Prof. Oak mentions that it would have been more appropriate for Ash to have saved Misty from a Dragon Pokémon. Ash doesn't get it, would this be an in-universe [[Don'tExplaintheJoke Don't Explain the Joke]]? Or is it something else.

It's a reference to fairytale stories.
