1980s New York City, as seen in Ghostbusters. This one's fairly unique, though, because the crapsackness comes more from a feeling of tiredness (the dingy beige and gray color scheme of the city) and a sense of disconnect from spirituality (the Ghostbusters are admired as celebrities yet derided as frauds). To make matters worse, when we DO learn that there's something on the other side, it's at best mischievous and at worst malignant. However, it is a world where the casts of Saturday Night Live and SCTV can join forces and hold our nightmares at bay WITH SCIENCE!
A Crapsack World with heroes and hope, where the good guys can turn things around and even most of the monsters have wacky senses of humor, is NOT a Crapsack World. The ... bizarre incarceration of some of the Ghostbusters in the second movie is even easily reversed. This is a World Half Full.
