I've half a mind to cull them entirely, as they're very rules-dependent. Maybe they could be worked into Gameplay and Story Integration somehow.
Edited by WillbyrI do think there may be something salvageable but as you said, probably not under those tropes (I will admit I am not too familiar with those tropes which is part of the reason why I started the discussion)
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellWith the release of the new Codex (both in and out of universe) I would like to suggest changing the layout of this page. In order to fit with the new designations I think we should have Battleline (Tactical Marines), Close Support (Assault Squads, Bikes, Attack Bikes, Land Speeders) and Fire Support (Devestator) folders in the Troops section. I am not sure about Centurions though as they fit in both Close and Fire Support sections.
Also should the Astartes Command (Chapter Masters, Captains & Lieutenants) have a single folder as they do share a number of tropes. In addition as there are now both regular and Primaris Lieutenants I think they should be removed from the Primaris page as there is little unique about the Primaris ones now.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it Well Hide / Show RepliesDo you have time to do up a sandbox version of the page?
Also, I'm thinking that the Lieutentant traits on the Primaris page can be wrapped into the regular listing until they get more tropage...that would free up the former image to go back on the page.
I will have a go at a sandbox if and when I have time (should be some time before Wednesday hopefully). I will have to figure out how to make a sandbox however (I am guessing it is the same as making a regular page, just with the Sandbox namespace?)
As for the Primaris Lieutenant, the only tropes they have at the moment are Chapter specific ones so they could probably go in the relevant sections of the Astartes Chapters page. I do think there is no reason to even have a specific Primaris Lieutenant section on the Primaris page as Lieutenants are now available as regular and Primaris versions like Chaplains, Apothecaries, etc. and we don't have them on that page.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellI have made a basic Sandbox for the page offlline (in plaintext notebook) and was going to try making the page to test it out but found that https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Sandbox/Characters/Warhammer40000Astartes has been cut already. Should it be recreated or should I make a new one in a different place?
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellOkay. It still needs work but here is a general idea for what I was thinking about for the layout.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellThat's not bad. Maybe Scouts and Centurions should be rolled into a Multi-Purpose folder since they can handle multiple roles.
Hmmm. Interesting idea. I will have to experiment.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellI have started a discussion on the Sandbox as that is probably a better place to have this conversation rather than here.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellShould the information about Chapter specific variations of the basic units (e.g. the Hot Blooded Blood Claws or the Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnoughts having An Axe To Grind) be included here or on the Chapters page as I think they fit better on the latter.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it Well Hide / Show RepliesI'd been wondering about that...I'm leaning toward moving them to the Chapters page.
I had a look and some of the are already on the Chapters page so I think they should be deleted but I will leave doing so until tomorrow to see if anyone else has an opinion on the subject.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellI was wondering whether the Sternguard and Vanguard should have a folder for the both of them rather than having them with the Devastator and Assault Squad entries respectively. Not only would they be with the other Veteran folders but the Sternguard are really more a Veteran Tactical Squad rather than a Veteran Devastator Squad.
Edited by SebastianGray Knowledge is Power, Guard it Well Hide / Show RepliesIf there's enough tropes to support them being separate, that seems fine to me.
Cool, I'll work some things out and try to make the edit at some point over the weekend.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellI have a quick question about the inclusion of Tu'Shan. I was under the impression that the individual characters on these pages were meant to be ones that have, or have had, rules for the game at some point as if we include all the important fluff characters then these pages could expand exponentially. As Tu'Shan has never had rules, should he be included?
Knowledge is Power, Guard it Well Hide / Show RepliesMakes sense to me, I'd be fine with removing him pending a model actually being released...which doesn't seem likely.
Cool, I'll leave it a day or so to see if anyone else has any opinion before removing him and moving his relevant tropes to the main Salamanders entry.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellThe page is looking fantastic. I'm thinking it might be easier to integrate the information in the table at the top into each chapter's intro; yea/nay?
Hide / Show RepliesSeems like it would work.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDone. I've commented out the three links that were at the bottom of the table; we can either get rid of them or try to incorporate them into the description somehow.
I made that tweak to BFS because, at least when you're considering the models, the various swords' proportions to the Marines make them roughly as tall as a regular human, or close to it. Given the mechanisms on them and the assumed proportional weight, you'd need to have Conan-like strength to use something like that with any efficiency.
Images should not be added to the characters that don't have a sufficiently developed list of tropes. Otherwise, the pic will stretch below that character's section and displace the pics below it.

I have just hidden the Master of All / Master of None examples because I am unsure on how to deal with them and would like some advice.
1. It is against site rules to have two tropes on the same bullet point but I am unsure which should be kept
2. A lot of the entries seem to be about specific units so could be better in the entries for those units but I as some of them refer compare the unit to other units I don't know if this would be appropriate.
3. All the examples seem to be quite wordy and could probably do with rewriting for brevity.
Does anyone have any opinions on what to do?
