Suwako is not a Time Abyss. The trope says the minimum is 5000 years old, which she's not, but more importantly it says that we have to get a sense of the character's unimaginable age. Which we do not. It's a "random big number" as the trope says, except it's not even a big enough number to put into the lowest end of the scale. This is clearly a case of Square Peg Round Trope. Really 700 Years Old is perfectly suited for this sort of character. No need to throw in Time Abyss.

Yeah, that fits much better. I was somewhat skeevy on Time Abyss in the first place, since she doesn't brag about her age and it's only brought up in profils. Thanks, sorry for the edit war.

Says Ichirin may have been a messenger of Bishoutomen, or else a buddhist rosary that became a youkai similar to Tsukumogami.
New info comes from the recently released Symposium of Post-mysticism book. Tropers are currently translating some articles from it in the Touhou forum thread.
About Sanae: regarding Marisa's and Hatate's commentary, it is a case of He Who Fights Monsters, or an allusion to And Then John Was a Zombie (see the "mythology" folder)? I mean, becoming a youkai after hunting excessive amounts of youkai is something, but taking a youkai's energy for oneself is pretty much asking for it.
