found this a strange book. Readable, but flat, as if the ideas are there but somehow cannot get off the ground. Not sure if the flat, dissappointing nature of the book is in the author or in the rather indifferent translation.

Book Two is just... bitty. An important villain, Romo, is built up, given numerous chances to show off his villainy and general bastardry, but dies in a very perfunctory way that doesn't seem to do him much justice. A big villain deserves a big end. And the plot veers from "are their avatars?" to "no, there are no avatars, just a thirdling plot" back to "oh shit there are avatars after all" to "hold on a minute, these supposed godlings are just human mages with a new kind of magic". All this reads as if the author himself isn't sure and he's just making it up as he goes along, or else to meet a publishing deadline. Ah well, maybe it all makes better reading in the original German...

Male, early sixties, Cranky old fart, at least two decades behind. So you have been warned. Functionally illiterate in several languages.
