I feel like Morton’s got one too many tropes that don’t fit or downplay his negative qualities.

Pulled this from Murphy:

• Officer O'Hara: He is explicitly described by Dr. Faxx in the second film to have Irish descendance and be raised Catholic (Faxx believes the fact that Suicide Is Sinful is one of the reasons Murphy is still soldiering on). He was a pretty nice guy before turning into a cyborg (and is still nice afterwards, just less talkative).

The trope is not just "is a cop, is Irish, was a nice guy." It refers to a specific set of stereotypes, which includes the accent. The description is, "the cop with the whimsical Irish accent who usually stands in the sidelines, offering recycled stereotypical quips about St. Patrick and the shores of Oireland." Not one word of that applies to Murphy.
