Was the rouge clamshell ever actually mentioned or shown in the manga? As I remember it, the episodes where it was introduced was an anime original story that goes into greater detail about Kikyo and Inuyasha's past relationship. There was no equivalent in the manga, and Inuyasha was never mentioned as having any mementos from his mother like it.
If I'm wrong, that's fine, I haven't exactly combed through all 558 chapters. But I have done some searching on my own and come up blank. Could someone either point to a manga chapter or interview that confirm the theory that it existed and wasn't destroyed in the manga? Otherwise, using it as proof that Yashahime's following the manga canon instead of the anime seems like a stretch (especially since it also uses 'Izayoi', a name only mentioned in the movie, for Inuyasha's mother).
Hide / Show RepliesKagome explicitly said the Clamshell of Rouge originally belonged to Inuyasha's mother, not a new one. That already narrows down on what sequel is it supposed to be. If Yashahime is a sequel to the original anime, then it wouldn't exist at all.
I still say it's far too inconclusive on its own, when previously the clamshell rouge was only mentioned in the anime in the first place. It a valid theory, but it could also have some other in-universe explanation, or turn out to just be a continuity error/plot hole that they decided to go ahead with because they thought using the rouge like that would be a fun power for Moroha.
At the very least, I think we need more than just this one discrepancy before claiming it's a fact that the story's following the manga, rather than the original anime. Especially since they've also used movie-original content, like the story of the Tree of Ages, or the name of Inuyasha's mother being Izayoi.
Shouldn't the first season be counted as a Downer Ending, since it's more sad than bittersweet?
