I\\\'m thinking it might have been changed in the dub, just because making character dialogue fit is more difficult there and more likely to change. The dub has also done some other questionable things--like changing \\\"we should treat each other as individuals\\\" to \\\"we should ignore race\\\" which means something entirely different. I feel like I would have to check with someone who knows Japanese to understand the context though.
