1. The movie itself is fine. Its the ending that is polarizing. The reaction videos on youtube can be summarized with the word \\\"Bull\\\". Much of the anger is over the fact that the happy ending (which was the perfect send off) was trampled on unceremoniously.

2. So far the source of not being approved of is from posts in the forums. No link was provided yet, but I have read multiple times that Urobuchi wanted to keep the TV series ending.

3. Hearing rumours that Rebellion MIGHT be a set up for a 2nd season. Whether that season actually comes or not determines the truthfullness of that statement.

4. Even before Rebellion came out the fandom was very worrired that everything from Episode 12 would get torn down and dumped on. Those fears only got confirmed.

Kinda sucks that the happy ending he finally wanted to make got dumped on by ExecutiveMeddling. Its like a rehash of how Inafune got screwed over with MegaManZero (we have wiki confirmation that the 3rd game was supposed to be the ending) by ExecutiveMeddling.

The event in short: [[spoiler: Kyubey does somethinig really dickish to bring back the witch system which results in a chain of events that causes Homura to become the PMMM equivilant of {{Satan}} (and now considers Madoka her enemy) in a sudden swerve in the final act]].

Edit: Just read some theories that are quite interesting and might make this ending seem less awful in hind sight, with possible FridgeBrilliance. This of course assumes the 2nd season is real. Both are relatively similar and have managed to cheer me up a bit.

1. \\\"The Madoka BatManGambit theory\\\": [[spoiler: Madoka planned this as a gambit to try to help the person who was hurt the most by all of this.]]

2. \\\"The ZeroApprovalGambit theory\\\": Similar to above, but the mastermind is [[spoiler: Homura]]. [[spoiler: Note that Homura didn\\\'t strip anyone\\\'s powers or even strip Madoka of her god powers. All she did was put on a lock on them, meaning that its full out possible (and possibly planned) for Madoka to become unlocked. The core loser was Kyubey. The objective is for the whole awful system to be destroyed for good. This approach to a true happy end requires Homura to play the role of the villain, via a mask of insanity and in the end LOSE.]]

That second one is quite similar to a theory about [[{{WarHammer40000}} Commander Farsight\\\'s]] true agenda that has gained considerable evidence after the Far Sight Enclave supplement.

Personally, I\\\'m calling bunk on this one until we get physical cofirmation and will assume Rebellion is the true series ending until said confirmation comes.
