Although to be fair \'\'Fievel Goes West\'\' had the misfortune of going up against \'\'Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast\'\', while the first movie was kind of a surprise hit with no direct competition from Disney aside from the rerelease of \'\'SongOfTheSouth\'\' (last time it saw the light of day I think) and LadyAndTheTramp\'\'. I think it was probably the lack of Don Bluth that led to \'\'Fievel Goes West\'\' being LighterAndSofter. And then the lack of Spielberg and a huge budget that led to the other sequels being mediocre.
