Anime that rely on fanservice to get viewers tend to have someone in the audience\\\'s shoes, like \\\'\\\'Green Green\\\'\\\', \\\'\\\'Eiken\\\'\\\', \\\'\\\'[=KissxSis=]\\\'\\\' or \\\'\\\'He is My Master\\\'\\\'; the person in question is usually an Average Joe who gets to be intimate with the female characters in varyingly consentual ways. Even works that aren\\\'t as heavy on fanservice follow this structure, including the three Kyoto Animation series \\\'\\\'[=AIR=]\\\'\\\', \\\'\\\'Kanon\\\'\\\' and \\\'\\\'[=CLANNAD=]\\\'\\\'. The latter even has a scene were the main character gets locked in with a girl of the same age who, when she thinks the protagonist is trying to have sex with her, gets her tsundere on (read: acts in a way your average \\\"harem\\\" fan finds adorably attractive). That\\\'s fanservice: despite not containing any blatant nudity (though there are of course series do as well), it does ramp up the aforementioned eroticism.

\\\'\\\'Popotan\\\'\\\' doesn\\\'t have any of that. Even when the characters are in the nude, nothing erotic happens. The closest you get are the incidents mentioned in Sloth\\\'s post, and those are really tame compared to what usually happens in similar situations in other anime, not to mention much shorter. The focus of these scenes are never on the fact that the characters are naked because, as weird as it may sound, \\\'\\\'Popotan\\\'\\\' is pretty plot-heavy. I think the reason for the many bath scenes is simply to convey a feeling of familiality, seeing as how Japanese families often bathe together. Adding to that, many scenes that are definitely not meant to be fanservice take place in the sisters\\\' bathroom, like when [[spoiler: Mai leaves the family in episode 11]]. It may seem foreign to us, but I\\\'d say there\\\'s nothing indicating that titillation was what the creators had in mind, at least not when it comes to the minors.

\\\'\\\'\\\'It doesn\\\'t matter what the creators thought; there\\\'s still material that could cater to paedophiles.\\\'\\\'\\\' If by \\\"paedophile\\\" you mean \\\"person with an interest in a drawing somewhat resembling a nude human child\\\", sure. But if I wanted underage nudity and upskirts (and I don\\\'t), I could go to the beach. Like I\\\'ve said time and time again, nudity alone isn\\\'t sexual. The word \\\"sexual\\\" means \\\"of a nature involving sex\\\", which is to say, something arousing. There\\\'s a reason there are drawings and even photos of naked humans in biology books: it\\\'s entirely clinical. By contrast, people doing poses while naked for photographs or such tend to be in positions that allude to sex. It\\\'s even possible to do that while clothed (I have yet to hear someone say \\\"Man, that woman\\\'s cleavage is totally boring. How am I supposed to know there are nipples under there if I don\\\'t \\\'\\\'see\\\'\\\' them?\\\"). As mentioned before, that\\\'s how anime or any other form of media infamous for their fanservice can become infamous in the first place without showing that much skin.

Let\\\'s put it this way: if nudity alone is sexual, then someone needs to censor the pictures for Wikipedia\\\'s article on Bathing before any children see them.

\\\'\\\'\\\'The work is labeled as Seinen, and thus aimed at older men.\\\'\\\'\\\' Indeed. So is \\\'\\\'Kill Me Baby\\\'\\\', \\\'\\\'Minami-ke\\\'\\\' and \\\'\\\'Ore no Whatever-Comes-After-That\\\'\\\'. And \\\'\\\'Death Note\\\'\\\' is Shounen. And Seinen doesn\\\'t even mean \\\"only to be sold to adult men\\\", it means \\\"best enjoyed by men who are too old to wear \\\'\\\'Naruto\\\'\\\' headbands\\\". Older people can read both Shounen and Shoujo, in the same way that several adults can read \\\'\\\'Harry Potter\\\'\\\'. The labels don\\\'t indicate anything, really.

\\\'\\\'\\\'There are several inappropriate scenes besides those containing nudity or upskirts.\\\'\\\'\\\' Yes, there are several scenes that even I would have preferred if they didn\\\'t appear in the series, but that doesn\\\'t mean you have to view them as sexual. They could just as easily be seen as comedic, even if you yourself don\\\'t think they\\\'re funny. I can only think of three scenes at most, anyway.

Also, just in case someone brings this up:

\\\'\\\'\\\'You are by your own admission fans. Doesn\\\'t this make you biased?\\\'\\\'\\\' I have no idea if this will ever come up, but in case it does, no. The fact that we like the series doesn\\\'t mean we\\\'ll automatically be biased. You could just as easily say Martin Luther King was biased, since he fought for African-American rights while being black himself.

That\\\'s all for now. What do you think?
