I worry that I am inviting a potentially dumb argument here, but I feel compelled to point out that the image at the top of the page is really an example of archetypes, not expys.

The similarities between a lot of the characters shown (Granted I have avoided watching the Cleveland Show like a plague, so I can only comment on the examples pertaining to FG and AD) seem to be more similar in what role they play in the show, and not the actual personality.

While I would not argue that the personalities of Seth McFarlane\'s characters are particularly well developed, or especially 3-Dimensional, they do have distinctive characteristics from one another.

Chris is awkward and clumbsy to the point where I\'m tempted to consider him a case of Aspergers, and is prone to outbursts when taken outside hsi comfort zone, whereas Steve is much more of a would-be smooth operator in the vein of Liesure Suit Larry, whose failings are more of him being a dumbass and a pansy than from being terrified of things he doesn\'t understand. Not really the same character at all, they\'re just both dumbasses.

Meg and Hayley are also extremely different, in that Meg is a desperately lonely girl eager to suckup to anyone she can to get popular and have more attention thrown at her, but fails because she is unattractive and lacks charisma. Hayley is independent, attractive, knows what kind of person she is and isn\'t afraid to give the finger to anyone who wants to hold her back. Someone such as, on a literally regular basis, her father who attempts to thwart her efforts constantly. I\'d almost say she\'s a good example of a strong female character, except she once became a stripper, so there\'s that.

I could go on but I feel like I\'ve made my point. Doesn\'t this trope exist specifically for examples of characters who are basically preexisting characters with a different face/identity?

The top of the page image seems to be just listing off the similar archetypes of the casts. I just don\'t see that being a very fitting image for this trope.

edit: Didn\\\'t realize when I wrote this that someone else already addressed my exact issue and was met with agreement. Nothing to see here.
