Reasonable guesses, yes, but still guesses. You can\'t have a contradiction based on guesses because, reasonable as they may be, they can still be wrong. And just as there are reasonable guesses we can make based on the fact he was a guardian, there\'s reasonable guesses we can make based on the fact he is \'\'no longer\'\' a guardian. And if you have one reasonable guess that leads to a contradiction, and another reasonable guess that lets the plot flow smoothly, isn\'t it simpler to conclude the latter is more likely correct?

The guardian is how he knows about it, as far as we can tell; as I said, it\'s one line from Tamina; for all we know, Nizam did know about the dagger itself previously, and the guardian only told him about the defenses and such. But, as mentioned before, it\'s a possibility he simply doesn\'t believe the stories--after all, he\'s probably never seen it demonstrated, and there must be a reason he left the Guardians. Even when the head assassin does witness it, from his perspective Dastan just had ungodly reflexes. If the former guardian doesn\'t believe the stories about its power, sure, he might think Nizam is a little nutty for going to all this trouble to get it, but hey, he\'s a paying customer.

Okay, fair enough, but in any case someone must have asked that question during the writing process, cuz it\'s the only reason to include that detail.
