As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

closed Remove the "title" attribute from hyperlinks in the "twikilink" class?
Since it's just repeating the "href" attribute, instead of doing something different than it would when without the "title"?
Hovering over the link would do the same thing even without the "title" attribute?
This is so links would be smaller, so it takes longer for pages to be too-long. ... But we could also cut out the "pmwiki/pmwiki.php" bit of the URLs to make them even smaller?
Edited by Maladyclosed Excluding the preceding characters in a curly brace link
So you know how {{Justified|Trope}} gives us Justified due to the | symbol excluding the "Trope" part of the title. How about a symbol like that but for excluding the previous characters?
Ok so say "$" is the hypothetical symbol.
In a trope like The Cameo, to make it just Cameo, All I have to do is type {{The$Cameo}} instead of putting TheCameo in piped links.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2closed "Related" page entry should match actual display name
If you open the "Related" tab for any page, all the entries are in default display form. They should be in actual display form, since that is the real name of the page.
closed Actual page names should work for namespaces
If a name of a namespace matches a page name where the display was changed, the namespace should match the actual display. For example, BaitAndSwitch is displayed as "Bait-and-Switch", not as "Bait And Switch", so BaitAndSwitch/LiveActionTV should have its namespace also displayed as "Bait-and-Switch".
Edited by Someone1981closed Search option in inbox
Add a search engine to the inbox so you can search for a specific message.
closed Restrict viewing the engineer & mod discussion thread to those who can post in it
Currently, anybody can view the engineer & mod discussion thread despite only engineers and mods being able to post in it. I'd like for the coding to be changed so that only engineers and mods can view the thread as well, cuz there could be some private, sensitive information that only they should be made privy to view.
closed Notified marker
On the page history, if someone sends a Notifier for an edit, it'd be marked as such. This would 1. prevent multiple people from sending the same violation 2. note people that an edit broke which rule.
The problem would be tagging the edit after PM is sent.
closed Replace The Icon For The WebAnimation/ Namespace
I really don't like the current icon for the Web Animation namespace. The "POW" thing doesn't really convey what the namespace entails. I suggest we replace it something more indicative, like ones that combine these:
- 💻🖊️ Web Animation
- 📱✍️ Web Animation
- 🖥️🖋️ Web Animation
Any thoughts?
closed Ability to delete multiple PMs at once
Right now, in your mailbox, you only have the option to delete individual messages one at a time, or do a "delete all" and clean everything out at once. It would be very nice to have the ability to select multiple messages via check boxes and delete them all at once with a "delete selected" button, either in the toolbar at the top of the page or at the bottom of your inbox.
closed Secondary navigation links are unclear
Right now when you're viewing a forum thread, the links are HOME - BACK - THREAD WATCHLIST - MARK AS UNREAD
In this context, "Home" looks like it would send you back to the forum index, and what "Back" does isn't entirely clear. I'd like to see something more like TVTROPES HOME - BACK TO <FORUM NAME> - THREAD WATCHLIST - MARK AS UNREAD
Also, the links for trope pages are currently HOME - EDIT PAGE - RELATED - DISCUSSION - PAGE SOURCE - HISTORY - TO DO - WIKIWORD - UPLOAD IMAGE Particularly because "TV Tropes Home" is longer and could result in more items being cut off on small screens, I think these could stand to be reordered, placing more commonly-used (and page-related) items first. That is: TVTROPES HOME - EDIT PAGE - DISCUSSION - HISTORY - RELATED - PAGE SOURCE - CUSTOMIZE WIKIWORD | UPLOAD IMAGE - TO DO
closed Filter inbox view to "received", "sent" or "all" PMs
Inboxes can get pretty cluttered, and I suspect that's especially true for heralds (with automated outbound messages) and mods.
It'd be great if we had a way to filter them to sent vs. received.
closed Private Message Checkbox System
Stop me if you've heard this one before:
You're checking out your Message Inbox and find that it's bloated with old messages that you had resolved or were notifications for you having uploaded a Video Example you had made long ago. You mouse your cursor over to the red "X" to delete that message from your Inbox in order to clean up more space in it, only for the page to automatically reset and bring you to the top of the screen: causing you to lose your place in the long list again, meaning that you are forced with no other option than to slowly scroll your way back down again trying to remember where you just were at.
This is less-than-ideal for most of us that can't afford to spend several minutes looking through after deleting a single message that we often tend to avoid going into that Inbox with the purpose of deleting older messages you no longer need. The only way I can think of that this can be resolved is to incorporate a checkbox system located on the left side of the Inbox Message that can allow us Tropers to carefully select the Messages we want to delete on a page one at a time and then press a "Delete All Selected" option in order to clear them out of our Inbox without too much hassle. It would make traveling into our Inbox seem less of an annoyance that needs enduring and let us get back to doing the things we love most: Categorizing and Calling out the Colorful Clichés that Crop up in our Cartoons, Cinematics, and Chronology!
closed Allow tropers to lock their own ATT posts
At the moment, ATT threads can only be locked by moderators, which mean mods have to intervene if they go too far off-topic.
Crowner posts are generally locked almost immediately, as they don't need comments.
Allowing tropers to lock posts themselves once their query is resolved would make the mods' lives a little easier.
(If we allow tropers to unlock them again, this probably needs an extra check to ensure they can't reverse mod locks, and that that this applies to all historical locks applied prior to the new feature)
Edited by Mrph1closed Searching through messages
It would be nice if there were a way to sort or search through your P Ms without just having to manually go from page to page. There are plenty of times when I need to find an exact PM, so if I could type in a name or something and narrow the PM search...
closed Search function for private messages
The ability to find old PMs by keyword or sender/recipient would be really useful, I think.
Edited by Wackdclosed Better way to delete viewed PM's
(Narrowing down to one item at mod's request)
Pretty sure there was at least one thread about this before, but since that's being archived and might be paid much attention to in future, I'd like to suggest/re-suggest a thing. There really needs to be a way to delete multiple PM's at once; click, wait for page to load, End button, Page Up button, check cursor position, click, wait for page to load, etc, ad nauseum. Every time I feel like cleaning some of them out so I can look at the old ones and remember what I kept them for, it's a long-ass process that shouldn't take so long, or even be necessary. There should be a way to just check a bunch of boxes, hit a Delete button, and have many PM's disappear at once, as is the case with most electronic correspondence systems, whether they're the selling point of a site or not.
Edited by Knowlessmanclosed Archive for the bugs and wishlist noticeboards
As requested in moderator discussions, there should be archives for the noticeboards, such as https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query_archive.php?type=wl and https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query_archive.php?type=bug. All queries which are set to "closed" ought to display there instead of the main listing (so that when a query is closed, it no longer appears in the main queue but in the archive instead, but if a query gets reopened it displays in the main noticeboard again)
closed Open "Find posts by troper" to everybody
Currently, only Tropers who are logged in can use the "Find posts by troper" search function at the forums. This honestly feels like an unnecessary and arbitrary restriction to me, and I can't think of a good reason as to why it's still in place. I therefore suggest that "Find posts by troper" is opened to everybody, including people who don't have an account and those who aren't logged in.
It will help prevent spoilers, epileptics and (In case of Ben 10: Omniverse's clip "Rath has been naked all along") Ear-Bleeding.
