The writers, wanting to be all-inclusive, write Alice as a strong, independant female, who helps shy, neurotic Diane gets out of her shell. Or they try to. But instead, Alice comes off as completely abusive to Diane, hitting her unprovoked and telling her quite bluntly that she liked Diane better when she was "A socially awkward pile of nerves" Read: "I liked you better when you didn't stand up to me" Instead of admiring Alice for being strong and independant, Alice is criticized as a textbook abuser to Diane. So what is it when a writer accidentally writes a character as abusive?
