Sounds vaguely like Recettear.
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.

So, I found this game a couple months ago, and I ended up completely forgetting the name. It was a Japanese flash game with NES-style graphics, which took place entirely in an item shop. The player character would have to obtain coins (can't remember how) to buy items, one of which was always a key that would let you access the next stage. If I remember correctly, it was made by a somewhat established indie developer.
