Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

The idea of a "snowclone" is not new, and we've had spates of it on this site going back for yonks. A catchy, memetic trope name, just like a catchy, memetic thread title on the forums, will spawn imitators. The problem is that many of those imitators (speaking about the wiki side, of course) were made just to play off the title without any meaningful distinction as a trope.
Tropes falling into the snowclone pattern were run through Trope Repair Shop for cleanup and/or removal. In some cases, it was determined that they were meaningful and being used correctly, and so they were retained. To see whether Everythings Better With Penguins got that treatment, do a forum search for it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Okay, so apparently there was once a group of tropes that did badly because people were listing non-tropes under them and it got so badly written that people named an Administrivia page "Everythings Worse With Snowclones" as a hypocritical joke. Where did this trope originate? And how come some tropes (Everythings Better With Penguins for example) still have this format?
