Do we have anything for when two scenes are being shown at more or less the same time prgressing independently of each other but one of them has an effect on events in the other? Brad Bird discusses this in the commentary of The Incredibles, the scene where Bob is exploring Nomisan Island while Helen is talking to Edna until she activates the tracking device in Bob's suit giving his position away to Syndrome's forces. He mentions a similar scene in The Iron Giant, where the giant is eating the electrical tower and puts out the lights at Hogarth's house.
