Sound a bit like Saint Seiya (Dubbed as Knights of the Zodiac) but can't find that episode just by Ep Guide.

The armor designs do look familiar, but I can't tell if that's because I've seen them in other contexts or they were part of the show.
If it helps, there might have been some color coding among the characters (The ponytail guy having a blue/green/cool color scheme) and there may have been an episode where they had to make a waterfall reverse its flow, but I'm not sure if it was part of the same show.
Okay, so there were these three guys with powers who also might have transformed into themselves with armor on, or maybe they just put armor on? Anyway, they were all competing/in-training for becoming some sort of ‘chosen one’ and they were being trained by this old man out in the countryside. I believe one of the guys was the hotblooded obvious protagonist type, and one of them was a nice guy who cooked and had a ponytail. I can't remember what the third guy was like. I only ever caught one episode of it, so my memory of the premise is a bit shaky.
The episode itself revolved around the three guys being sent by the old man to fetch an egg that had been laid by an eagle, probably a supernatural/mythical one. I believe the main character-esque guy was actually the first to fail, and he took it really badly. When the second guy whom I remember nothing about failed and landed in some sort of pond next to the first guy, the first guy gloomily said something like, “Oh, I guess you’re a failure at becoming the chosen one too, huh?” Obviously, the third ponytail guy was the winner. To add in some irony, I think that the first guy made fun of him beforehand.
What I mainly remember is the ending, where the third guy has come back after finding the eagle’s nest and whipped up a nice big omelet for everyone. However, the old man grabs the omelet and devours it all, not letting the other two eat it, giving the excuse that an omelet made from the egg of the legendary eagle thing is too great a dish for such failures… only to be surprised when the third guy says that it isn’t actually made from the eagle’s egg. It turns out that although the third guy did reach the nest and could have taken the egg, he promised the eagle that he’d leave her egg alone. So it was a perfectly normal omelet after all.
Note: I watched this as an English children’s program, but I don’t know if it was originally an English language series (i.e. Western Animation) or if it had been dubbed or not. (i.e. anime) I do know it had an animesque style. It'd probably have aired in Canada sometime in the early 00's, late 90's at the earliest.
