Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
You can start by checking this page: The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours. Key points:
- No entries which rely on insider info; it should be something verifiable by outsiders. This applies to trivia, too (when possible, it's best to state the source).
- No touching the YMMV page, as creator or people related to them are inherently biased. At least, no adding, removing or heavily modifying entries.
- General rules against edit wars still apply; if you run into disagreement with someone, try to discuss it first.
There's generally no difference from editing regular pages, aside that the author is extra burdened to check that all information is apparent from reading the work, and authors can't be trusted with subjective examples. If there's an argument over page's examples of style, the author being pushy can warrant a report.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupFair enough. I'm mainly interested in sprucing up the main page and can see how YMMV material would be left to other users.
I was curious on what the policy is for editing pages based on fanfics you've created. I heard something from a friend that it's usually something to steer away from as far as avoiding personal bias or tooting your own horn. Just wanted to check if that's true or not.
The page I'm talking about is one of my own called Ultimate Sonic Fighter and wanted to check if there was any kind of policy on the original author editing any pages based on their own works.
