Definitely not Cardcaptors Sakura. It was a more obscure anime.
I remember that the trio were all male, and they made a deal with a female teacher to get the answers.

I have been thinking about an anime. I just remember one episode about a trio of students that were about to have a test, and for some reason, then one of them climbed into a clock tower to fix the abandoned clock there.
