I don't think it's necessary to revert. We can describe the controversy by just saying "transphobic term." We don't need to put the slur on the page.
(Frankly that whole description seems like it needs a cleanup, as it focuses more on this guy's controversies than his work.)

I'm assuming that it was put there in the first place because, well, if somebody says something controversial, the instinctive reaction is to write down what it was, exactly, that they said.
It's not like Trump's "Grab them by the p*ssy" usually was reported in the news with something vague like "He made a sexist comment about women."

Barrowman's page has been a bit of an issue recently, because of an ongoing controversy.
The bowdlerizing edit itself was fine (it was done for the purpose of removing a disallowed spoiler tag), but the rest of their edits were bad enough that I ended up reverting the whole thing.
