As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed Indexes textfield in the Trope Launch Pad
A minor but helpful request in the TLP would be a place to store the list of potential indices for a new trope.
It would be similar to the Laconic text field. In this case however, this field will usually be a list. You can display this list at the bottom of the trope draft either vertically or horizontally.
This would be useful in that you don't have to worry about accidentally including the index list once launching the trope.
closed Disambiguations should also be green in edit histories.
Just kind of a minor suggestion, but it could help a lot, it would look neat, and it would make it consistent.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2closed Lock reasons
When an article is locked by staff, it should have a reason for locking that is displayed when you try to edit the page.
Edited by RamenChefclosed Include namespaces in the indexbox
For example the bottom of BrokenBase.Persona 5 says
- Previous: Persona 5
- Index: YMMV/Persona 5:
- Next: Persona 5
The other two are actually BaseBreakingCharacter/Persona 5 and HilariousInHindsight/Persona 5, but you can't tell that without hovering the links.
Edited by AmonimusworkingAdd "Theatre" to the namespace options for ATT and YKTS
The 'select medium' option for ATT doesn't currently allow you to select theatre - nor does the equivalent YKTS option.
Can we add it in?
workingGive the New Edits page the ability to filter by YMMV.
Give the New Edits page the ability to filter by YMMV.
'Cause right now it has to be done by URL.

Edited by Maladyclosed A "thank you" message ala. Wikipedia
On Wikipedia, it allows you to privately send an automated "thank you" message to another user for an edit they made. It's a little thing, but I think a version of that for this site would be a nice way to give positive feedback to editors alongside the negative ones.
workingIf you've already added a hat/bomb to a TLP...
...can we add some indicator that you've done so? Currently, the only way to do this is by going to the draft in question and press either the hat or bomb button, prompting a message that you've already added one. With so many drafts out there, it's kinda hard to keep track of which ones you added a hat or bomb to!
closed Alerts for replies.
There should be a way for a troper to be notified when someone answers their entry on Wishlist, Bugs, Ask The Tropers, Trope Finder, You Know That Show, and Trope Launch Pad. Having to check entries daily, as well as keeping track of where the entries are, can be very cumbersome sometimes.
Edited by Loopytires55closed Unify watchlists
It would be nice if all items one has watchlisted - be them threads or wiki pages - would have one instead of two watchlists.
closed The deletion notices on deleted pages
The fact that deleted pages now show who put them on the cutlist and their reason is great. However, it doesn't say the date/time the page was deleted on, which would be better.
workingAutomatically follow threads you create
several times ive created a thread and forgotten to follow it, leading to me forgetting it because it's not in my follow list or having to hunt it down again once i realize it's not there. it would be nice if you automatically followed your own threads; presumably, if you create a topic about something, you have interest in discussing it.
openshow video length in thumbnail
For video thumbnails to show the video length in the corner, like on Youtube.
closed IUEO tag?
I was wondering if we could have a tag reminding people not to put In-Universe Examples Only reactions on YMMV pages, like how we have tags reminding not to put YMMV/Trivia on main work pages.
openImprove visibility of visited links on TLP
Using night vision, I always have to squint at the titles on the TLP board when the sun is in my room because the dark blue is not well contrasted against the dark grey background.
I am not even sure we need a different color for visited links. This board or Trope Finder (fortunately) don't have this feature at present and I am not missing it. Perhaps make "visited link color" a setting that users can turn on or off.
Edited by eroockopenShow wicks from TLP drafts on "Related" pages
We could boost activity on TLP if the Related section of trope and work pages would show wicks they receive from TLP drafts.
Edited by eroockclosed Moment subpages in "Create New" drop-down menu
At the top of every article, there is a "Create New" button for making new subpages, but the Moment subpages ("Funny", "Heartwarming", "Awesome", "Tear Jerker", and "Nightmare Fuel") are strangely absent. Seems like they should be included, to make creating them easier.
Edited by PrimisworkingImage Uploader for TLP
An Image Uploader for TLP, as one cannot upload there and it's a hassle to load a random trope/media/forum thread just to upload there.
Edited by alnair20aug93
Well, first I'd suggest you'd fix the algorithm that detects whether an image if used in an article of not, because it seems to not work if the images are in a folder. But anyways.
I'd like a way to delete inappropriate, strangely formatted, low quality, duplicate, or simply "unused for very long" images. The image must not be used in any articles, and also discussions/forums before it can be deleted.
