As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed "Previous" and "Next" buttons on this page look as if they don't work
It's petty, I know, but in Night Vision at least, the Previous and Next buttons kind of blend into the background, in way that one thinks they're useless or disabled, or that there aren't more pages of requests. They should be a different color than the background, or at least have a different font color than their outline (like the Submit button, for instance), so that they look useful rather than like they're trying not to be noticed. Something should only look useless when it is useless.
openDefault image code additions
For image uploads the default code is:

- While the image size was increased, there no good reason to use image width above 350 on-page, so in the default markup it should probably be capped while allowing opening original upload.
- The line with the caption starts with a space. There is no reason for it and it's annoying to remove every time.
closed Option to save settings Display Options
- Unfortunately it's like this: you enter the options window, choose the items that will appear on the display and that's it, but it's not. The options are not saved and you have to click all the buttons again after logging out.
- I think it's high time these options could be saved permanently by troper instead of having to configure everything again.
workingAdding Webcomic to the New Edits list
It would make them easier to search, especially in the filter.
closed Font/color changs on subpages
I'm not sure I like the fonts and header colors on subpages, such as Nightmare Fuel or YMMV. it's really distracting, especially in a page history.
closed Here’s hoping for a update feature.
This could be something minor, but I would really appreciate a feature that lets us alert fellow tropers when a tv tropes page needs an update. Particularly for fanfic pages that haven’t been updated in a while or for other canon series that have yet to be updated with the new information revealed.
closed Move start new discussion to the top
Self-explanatory. Discussion tabs are sorted from the latest, so the "Start New Discussion" button should be at the top.
Also, it would help to visually make it distinct from the "Add Reply" button, maybe add a border around each discussion chain and move "Reply" button to the right while the "New" button is to the left, because it's very easy to confuse the two.
closed Laconic hover feature
When you hover your mouse over a trope link, it shows the Laconic if there is one.
Edited by koryclosed Preview for Forum Edits
Wouldn't mind having the ability to preview edits made to a pre-existing post, as well as Save draft.
closed More Colors for Forum Text
I would appreciate if we could potentially get more colours for the TV Tropes forums, as I feel the the current line up is limited. Maybe, we could potentially use some kind of hex code system, where we put in a hex code, and the text will be of that colour.
closed Single and double air quotes should be distinguishable
I noticed in the edit window of the new design, one cannot tell the difference between a quotation mark and two single quotes. So and " looks almost the same which leads to confusion when formatting quotes. This was working better in the old style so I would request reverting that format change.
Edited by eroockclosed If a TRS thread has multiple crowners, list links to the crowners at the bottom.
Because honestly the crowner index is a chore to search through.
Edit: Oh wait my wish is being misread. I meant a way to list the past crowners of a TRS thread. Thanks for the correction Amonimus.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2closed A way to take care of circular links
It would be a while before we could do this, maybe in a future site update, but I thought it'd be nice if whenever someone linked to the article within the article, instead of reloading the page when you clicked on the link, it would take you to the administrivia page.
It would take a talented programmer to pull this off, but still.
closed Mobile site scrolling header
Hi, could you put in a way to turn off the scrolling header in mobile, I'm visually impared, so I tend to zoom in on my phone a lot, and the scrolling header makes it kinda annoying.
openincrease video title length limit
Currently the limit for video titles is 30 characters. This is too small for some titles. For example, on Stylistic Suck, the intended title of "Chloe's "improved" presentatio" is one character over the limit, despite only consisting of three words.
ETA: The length limit also makes it hard to warn for spoilers. Even if there is room to put "(spoilers)" in the title, there is usually not enough room to also fit the work name, meaning that most people will have no idea what the video is a spoiler for without clicking into it.
Edited by TwiddleropenCreating a list of Tropes to find media it applies to.
One thing I've come to this site looking for is a way to add tropes to a list and then see if those tropes are applied in any media. It appeared to not, so I wish to see a feature like that as I don't know of any website that has one. To give an example of what I'm talking about, let's say I'm looking for a piece of media that uses the tropes:
Artifact of Doom, The Quest, Suicide Mission, Anti-Hero.
If there were a feature I could input all of those tropes, and then it would bring up every piece of media that has them, it would be extremely helpful in searching for what pieces are similar to other pieces, so you can then compare them in how they use the tropes.
closed RSS Watchlist Feeds
Would it be possible for the tv tropes / thread watchlists to have RSS feeds so one could easily check to see when and edit/post/discussion post has been made?
closed Deprecated Name Redirect Highlight
When you scroll down to see the redirect(s) of a trope, it's not immediately clear whether that redirect is another valid redirect like how Contralto of Strength is to Baritone of Strength. Or if its a deprecated name that shouldn't be used like how Spikeification is the former name of Badass Decay.
I think it would be nice to have a visual indicator for when a certain redirect is supposed to be a deprecated name. Maybe make it a different color, like orange. Also have the indicator at the redirect list at bottom of the page.
To apply this to a page, maybe all you need to do is put an affix before or after redirect. Something like: or deprecated:redirect:TargetPage.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2closed Genre page type
Not namespace, but page type (i.e., that thing on the right). This would be to better differentiate genre pages from indices and trope pages, as they are typically a hybrid of the two.
The sidebar attached to each forum post that contains the avatar, user title, and badges appears to be sized to fit the 100px avatars, which is okay on desktop, but is way too wide when reading the forum on a phone screen in portrait orientation, and is super-annoying if you're looking at a longer post◊ (which Writer's Block, where I mostly keep to, consists primarily of). If avatars on mobile could be reduced to display at 50x50 like how they are on this wishlist and the bug reporter, and then moved up above the forum post in the post header, alongside the username, location, timestamp, and post actions, that would make for much easier reading.
